Job Title: Tax Managing Director, Core Tax Services - ASC 740

Job Responsibilities:

The Tax Managing Director is entrusted with providing industry-specific knowledge to advise clients on the tax implications of their business objectives. This includes evaluating and selecting alternative strategies to lessen tax burdens and compliance costs while ensuring adherence to tax regulations. The role requires acting as the primary client contact for resolving complex tax issues, understanding potential tax issues, recognizing and communicating risks, and staying abreast of changes in tax policy. The Tax Managing Director is responsible for making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and addressing inquiries from federal and state agencies.

Additionally, the Tax Managing Director is a critical member of the office/region leadership team, taking part in direct supervision as either a final or secondary reviewer under the partner. The role also involves active participation in marketing, networking, and business development within their area of expertise, maintaining client relationships, and serving as the primary contact for complex questions.

Key duties include:
- Ensuring clients comply with applicable authorities and minimizing their tax and reporting burdens while ensuring adherence to company policies, standards, and the Tax Quality Manual (TQM).
- Managing engagements to achieve engagement management metrics and practicing hands-on client service delivery.
- Identifying research needs, framing issues clearly, and reporting analysis concisely.
- Applying expertise in income tax provisions concerning international tax, valuation allowance credits, business combinations, and stock-based compensation issues.
- Assisting in developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, particularly in tax reduction.
- Developing expertise in specific areas of taxation and using this to advise clients on tax implications, recommending alternative actions, and identifying compliance methods.
- Introducing and developing strategies to improve client, company, or personnel positions by reducing taxes or expenses or providing non-tax benefits.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The Tax Managing Director is responsible for supervising associates, senior associates, and managers. This includes reviewing their work, providing feedback, acting as a career advisor, scheduling, managing workloads, and offering verbal and written performance feedback.

Education and Experience Information:

Education requirements include a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, with a Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred. The role requires ten or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services. Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties is preferred. Prior supervisory experience is required.

License/Certifications:

Candidates must have CPA certification, be an Attorney admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction, or be an Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA), or hold the equivalent of one of these designations. Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role is preferred.

Software and Skills:

Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite and experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software are preferred. The role requires superior verbal and written communication skills, strong analytical, research, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment.
