Job Title: Law Clerk (Cumberland/Gloucester/Salem) Recent Law School Graduates Needed for 2025-2026 Clerkships
Job Responsibilities:
- Work closely with justices, judges, prosecutors, defense attorneys, trial litigators, and court staff in New Jersey Courts.
- Engage in significant legal work and develop critical legal skills.
- Conduct in-depth legal research, analyze data, prepare memoranda, process emergent motion applications, and proofread published opinions.
- Observe judicial proceedings, attend conferences, mediate small claims cases, and summarize information for judges.
- Assist with court administration and emergent motions if assigned to trial court law clerks.
- Perform duties similar to those in the Appellate Division and trial courts, excluding mediation responsibilities, if assigned to Tax Court.
- Participate in mediation training and professional development courses, and earn CLE credits toward bar certification.
- Collaborate with fellow court employees, attorneys, self-represented litigants, and court personnel in a dynamic environment.
Education and Experience Information:
- Candidates must have graduated from a law school approved by the American Bar Association by the time of their law clerk appointment.
- The program is intended for recent law school graduates, defined as those graduating within the last four years.
- Selected candidates must provide an official, final law school transcript, not a photocopy, including the date of graduation at the time of hire.
- Excellent writing and analytical skills are essential.
- Prior completion of a course in mediation is helpful but not required.
- Selected candidates for clerkships can request a waiver from attending the Judiciary's training program by providing documentation of successful completion of an approved alternative dispute resolution course.

- Supreme Court: $79,456
- Superior Court Appellate Division: $72,540
- Superior Court Assignment Judge: $66,508
- Superior Court Chancery Division (General Equity): $66,508
- Superior Court Law Division (Civil, Criminal, and Family): $61,256

Additional Information:
- The position may require travel within the tri-county Vicinage and may be reassigned to another county within the Vicinage.
- A hybrid work schedule is available, allowing up to four remote workdays per month with high-speed internet access and multifactor authentication.
- Law clerks are exempt from New Jersey’s residency law during their court term.
- Full-time state employees with 10+ years of service can apply for federal student loan forgiveness through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.
- Eligible for comprehensive health benefits coverage for the clerk and eligible dependents through the State Health Benefits Program (SHBP).
- Earn up to 15 personal and 15 sick days as paid time off.
- Authorization to work in the US is required, but US citizenship is not.
