Responsibilities:
As an intern, you will have the chance to work on a variety of tasks and projects. Some of your responsibilities may include:
- Answering phones and taking messages
- Running errands
- Researching legislation
- Attending hearings and briefings
- Responding to constituent letters
- Assisting staff with resolving issues for constituents
- Conducting tours of the Capitol Building for visitors from Massachusetts
Internship Hours:
Internship hours are flexible and can be adjusted to accommodate your class schedule. In the . office, hours are generally from 9:00 . to 6:00 . when Congress is in session and 9:00 . to 5:00 . when not in session. In district offices, hours are from 9:00 . to 5:00 .
Application Deadlines:
To be considered for a fall internship, your application must be received by July 31st. For summer internships, the deadline is March 31st and for spring internships, the deadline is November 30th.
Requirements:
To be eligible for an internship with the United States House of Representatives, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be a college student
- Must be available to work during the desired internship term
- Must have a strong interest in politics and government
- Must have excellent communication and organizational skills
- Must be able to pass a background check
