Job Title: Deputy District Attorney II
Job Responsibilities:
The Deputy District Attorney II is tasked with a range of responsibilities within the legal framework of the organization. Key duties include:
- Interviewing victims and witnesses related to criminal activities to gather pertinent information.
- Engaging in discussions with associated parties such as investigators, police officers, probation officers, and other attorneys to ensure comprehensive case preparation.
- Preparing victims and witnesses for their court appearances and testimonies.
- Reviewing diverse sources of information such as police reports, defendant files, probation reports, witness statements, evidence, and crime scenes to obtain relevant case data.
- Issuing subpoenas to ensure the presence of witnesses and evidence in court.
- Negotiating case resolutions with defense attorneys and judges to reach fair settlements.
- Appearing and presenting in court at various stages of a case, including arraignments, preliminary hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials.
- Researching, formulating, drafting, and filing motions, briefs, and other legal documents required for case proceedings.
- Arguing motions in court and presenting evidence and witness testimony effectively.
- Preparing cases for jury trials and coordinating with relevant parties to ensure a cohesive presentation.
- Conducting legal research on criminal law issues to support case arguments and strategy.
- Reviewing documentation to file criminal charges appropriately and accurately.
- Acting as a representative for the District Attorney’s Office when required.
- Maintaining and upgrading professional knowledge and skills through seminars, training programs, and reading relevant professional journals and publications.
Education and Experience:
Candidates must have current membership with the State Bar of California and a minimum of one year of experience as a practicing attorney equivalent to that of the Deputy District Attorney I level. Alternatively, any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential job functions is acceptable.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Licensed to practice law in the State of California.
- Valid Driver’s License.

- Principles, procedures, and practices regarding the practice of law in California.
- Applicable state, federal, and local ordinances, laws, rules, and regulations.
- Record-keeping, report preparation, filing methods, and records management techniques.
- Methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report presentation.
- Ethical and professional standards of conduct.
- Computer applications and hardware pertinent to job performance.
Skill in:
- Preparing clear and concise reports, correspondence, and other written materials.
- Using tact, discretion, initiative, and independent judgment within established guidelines.
- Organizing work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and following up on assignments with minimal direction.
- Applying logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks and to understand, interpret, and communicate complicated policies, procedures, and protocols.

Salary Information:
The salary for the Deputy District Attorney II position ranges from to hourly, $3, to $4, biweekly, and $96, to $117, annually.
Special Requirements:
Employment in some departments may require successful completion of a pre-employment criminal background check, which may include fingerprinting, and/or a medical examination, which may include drug screening.
