Job Responsibilities:
- Participate in client-centered, holistic advocacy by engaging with low-income and elderly clients.
- Receive supervision and mentorship in the assigned practice area.
- Conduct intakes and gather relevant facts for cases.
- Engage in direct client contact and manage case files.
- Undertake research and writing projects on both small and large scales.
- Attend unit meetings and all-staff meetings to stay informed about departmental activities.
- Observe court proceedings to gain insights into legal processes.
- Make court appearances if 3:03 certified, providing a practical understanding of legal advocacy.
- Participate in regularly scheduled Learning Lunches, Intern Meetings, and other group events for professional development.
Education and Experience Information:
- Open to law students at all levels and dedicated undergraduate students interested in public interest law.
- Interns are recruited from various law schools nationwide for spring, summer, fall, and winter internships.
- Internships are available in multiple units, including the Employment unit.
- Applicants are expected to send a resume and cover letter expressing their interest in the program.
Salary Information:
- The internships offered are unpaid.
- Students are encouraged to explore funding options available through their schools for public interest internships.
- The organization will assist with any required paperwork to fulfill public interest documentation requirements.
