Overview:
- The Law Firm is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our team in Overland Park, KS.
- This full-time position offers competitive salary and benefits, including 401k matching, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short and long term disability, and PTO.
- The Paralegal will assist in monitoring and maintaining ongoing litigation cases, using analytical and critical thinking skills to complete tasks.
- Strong communication and organizational skills are essential, as the Paralegal will work closely with Firm members and clients.
- The role will involve case management, document preparation, and legal and factual research.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Case Management:
- Assist Attorney with case management, including communication with opposing parties and clients.
- File legal documents using the court's required method.
- Prepare Attorney for hearings and occasional trials, receive hearing and trial results from Attorney and Court, and communicate results to the client.
- Retrieve, review, and analyze specific dockets and all incoming mail received through physical mail or the Court's Electronic Case Filing system.
- Perform investigations for identification and location of parties, file summonses with court, and maintain contact and specific instruction to process servers and private investigators.
Document Preparation:
- Assist in the preparation of legal documents, such as briefs, pleadings, responses, objections, and notices.
- Research for missing information and documents, and request from client if needed.
- Edit and revise documents as instructed by Attorney and Client.
Legal and Factual Research:
- Research and analyze law sources, such as statutes, recorded judicial decisions, legal articles, and court rules.
- Use critical thinking skills to identify and interpret relevant information.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Legal experience or an Associate's Degree in Paralegal Studies or related field preferred.
- Intermediate knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft Office Programs.
- Strong data entry and word processing skills.
Working Conditions:
- This job operates in a professional office environment, using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
- Ability to work in front of a computer, while drafting documents, responding to emails, managing calendars, and answering phones.
- Occasional lifting of office products, supplies, and files up to 20 pounds.
