Job title: Senior Patent Counsel, Oncology
Job responsibilities:
As a Senior Patent Counsel specializing in Oncology at the company, the candidate will primarily support the Innovative Medicine division with a focus on the oncology business. The key responsibilities include:
- Providing a full range of patent support functions which involve preparing and prosecuting patent applications.
- Performing freedom-to-operate analyses and rendering opinions on patent-related matters.
- Managing relationships with outside counsel and drafting as well as negotiating license and collaboration agreements.
- Offering due diligence support for business development transactions and engaging in client counseling.
- Developing and executing patent strategies that align with an ever-evolving intellectual property (IP) environment.
- Regularly making presentations and engaging with business clients concerning intellectual property and related partnership and contractual matters.
Education and experience information:
The role requires:
- A minimum of an undergraduate degree in a biological science. An advanced degree or relevant industry experience is preferred.
- A Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
- An active license to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia, along with admission to the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) or equivalent bar.
- A minimum of 5 years of large molecule patent experience, acquired either at a law firm or within the in-house legal department of a multinational corporation.
- Demonstrated competency in pharmaceutical discovery, development, and commercialization.
- Working competency with protein, biologic, and cellular technologies, with a required competency for analyzing legal matters related to the research, development, and commercialization of protein, biologic, and cellular therapeutics.
- Substantial experience in drafting and prosecuting pharmaceutical-related patent applications.
- Experience in rendering patentability and non-infringement opinions.
- Preferred experience in due diligence activities, and in drafting and negotiating licenses/agreements.
- The ability to accommodate occasional travel is required.
