Job Title: Assistant Corporation Counsel I (Litigation)
Job Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload and represent the organization, Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department, and Boston Public Schools in assigned cases, encompassing all aspects of litigation including dispositive motions and discovery.
- Handle all phases of litigation, which include drafting pleadings, motions, and briefs.
- Conduct discovery processes.
- Make court appearances and engage in settlement negotiations.
- Represent the organization, Boston Fire Department, Boston Police Department, and Boston Public Schools in all court proceedings.
- Prepare for jury and non-jury trials and hearings in both state and federal courts, at trial and appellate levels.
- Conduct legal research and provide legal opinions to city officials.
- Respond promptly to additional project requests and adapt to new ideas and changing conditions.
- Perform related work as required.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctorate required.
- Experience ranging from one to five years as a lawyer in a law firm or governmental legal office.
- Preferred experience in civil rights, employment law, and personal injury.
- Must be licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts with no disciplinary record.
Additional Skills and Requirements:
- Must possess a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Highly motivated and proactive self-starter.
- Strong interpersonal skills, along with excellent organizational, oral, and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Westlaw, and Social Law Library.
- Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job.
- Residency in Boston is required.
Salary Information:
- Salary ranges from $88, to $125,.
Terms:
- Position is non-union with a salary plan/grade of MM2-9.
- Work hours total 35 per week.
