The SALT Senior Manager, Unclaimed Property/Escheat will be responsible for advising clients on tax implications and other accounting matters related to unclaimed property compliance and consulting. This role will require a strong understanding of tax and accounting principles, as well as the ability to analyze and manipulate data. The Senior Manager will also be responsible for project management, client presentations, and business development efforts. Other key responsibilities include:
- Researching complex tax issues and staying up-to-date on relevant unclaimed property laws and regulations
- Assisting with unclaimed property compliance, including obtaining and manipulating data, preparing returns, and responding to notices from state authorities
- Providing consulting services to clients on unclaimed property planning, policies and procedures, and audit defense
- Representing clients in front of tax authorities on contested issues
- Utilizing relevant software and systems, such as FSI Track, to complete tasks and stay organized
- Supervising and training other team members, including SALT Managers, Senior Associates, and Associates
- Developing relationships with clients, state authorities, and industry organizations through networking and public speaking events
- Maintaining a strong understanding of tax standards and sources of relevant information
- Contributing to the overall growth and success of the unclaimed property practice at BDO.
The ideal candidate for this role will have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and at least six years of experience in tax, financial statement auditing, internal auditing, or forensic accounting. Prior supervisory experience is required, and a CPA certification, law degree, or IRS Enrolled Agent designation is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with software such as Power BI and Alteryx is also preferred.
Individual salaries for this role will vary based on factors such as qualifications, experience, and location. The national salary range for this position is $99,750 - $262,500, with similar ranges for specific locations such as Maryland, NYC/Long Island/Westchester, and Washington DC.
