Summary:
The American Chemistry Council (ACC) is seeking a Director of Product Groups to serve as the designated staff executive and manage all aspects of assigned groups within the Chemical Products and Technology (CPT) division. This is a regular full-time position based in District of Columbia, DC. The position will provide support and manage specific CPT groups and consortia, working closely with key internal and external stakeholders and coordinating across ACC on key cross-cutting policy issues. The Director will report directly to the Senior Director, CPT.
Salary Range:
$126, To $152, Annually
Position Summary:
- Responsible for serving as the designated staff executive and managing all aspects of assigned groups within the Chemical Products and Technology (CPT) division.
- Provides support and manages specific CPT groups and consortia.
- Works closely with key internal and external stakeholders and coordinates across ACC on key cross-cutting policy issues.
- Reports directly to the Senior Director, CPT.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads groups/committees/task groups of member company representatives to build consensus relative to the development and implementation of strategic goals and objectives.
- Directs development, implementation and accomplishment of annual priorities for assigned CPT groups.
- Implements appropriate governance structures and requirements consistent with ACC policy and association management best practices.
- Directs development and management of annual budget and long-term financial plans for assigned groups.
- Monitors and maintains a full, integrated understanding of regulations, legislation, legal proceedings and market activities affecting or potentially affecting assigned groups.
- Provides expertise and strategic direction on priority issues, including the development of advocacy positions and strategies.
- Prepares technical and policy materials to support assigned groups’ goals and objectives and manages the development of education and communication vehicles.
- Serves as an external spokesperson and issue expert for assigned groups, presenting at policy and scientific conferences and speaking to trade and national press outlets.
- Cultivates and coordinates coalitions of national and regional industry groups, downstream users, allies and other stakeholders to support assigned groups’ goals and objectives.
- Advises and assist groups in funding and implementation of research programs.
- Works with internal ACC issue teams and support functions to ensure optimal customer service and satisfaction for assigned groups.
- Develops and implements outreach and marketing plans for increasing the membership of assigned groups.
- Directs the daily work activities of assigned staff (if applicable).
- Attends relevant industry conferences, forums, roundtables, etc. as deemed appropriate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Required:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- 8 years project/issue management experience or relevant experience.
- 3+ years of advocacy or related experience with a business, trade, political or policy advocacy organization.
- Demonstrated knowledge of chemical or related industry and the relevant regulatory environment.
- Experience managing issues and programs for clients.
- Ability to design and implement strategy, direction and action plans.
- Demonstrated project management and organizational management skills.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to build consensus and work in a team environment.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally.
Preferred:
- PhD or JD or related advanced technical degree.
- Association, consulting firm, law firm or government experience.
- Strong technical competency.
- Subject matter expertise in chemistry, chemical or environmental engineering, environmental science, biology, epidemiology, toxicology, or risk assessment.
- Experience with laws and regulations affecting the chemical industry.
- Demonstrated experience working successfully in a high-profile industry.
