Job Title: Children's Attorney (in abuse/neglect court)
Job Responsibilities:
The Children's Attorney will be part of the Children's Attorneys Project at the organization, representing abused and neglected children in foster care. The attorney's primary responsibilities include advocating for what the children desire to happen and ensuring their voices are heard during the child welfare/dependency actions. This involves being present from the moment a child enters the system until they exit it, attending all court hearings, visiting the children in their homes and communities, counseling them about their options, keeping them informed about their cases, advocating during meetings, and assisting them in planning for their futures. The attorney will work within a team that includes nationally certified child welfare law specialists and will participate in shaping child welfare policy while representing the interests of children in the courtroom.
Education and Experience Information:
The ideal candidate for the Children's Attorney position should be committed to public interest law and community service, with a strong desire to work with and zealously advocate for clients. While previous litigation experience is beneficial, it is not a requirement as the organization provides extensive training. The ability to speak Spanish is advantageous. The candidate must be a licensed attorney in good standing from any United States jurisdiction. Nevada offers special licensing for attorneys relocating to Nevada to provide legal services through the organization.
Salary Information:
The starting salary range for the Children's Attorney position is $70,000 - $100,000, depending on experience, with opportunities for annual increases. The organization offers an excellent benefits package starting on the date of hire, which includes:
