Job Title: Claims Consultant - Architects and Engineers
Job Responsibilities:
The Claims Consultant for the Architects and Engineers group is tasked with managing a caseload of claims-made, commercial A&E claims from initiation to completion. This role requires experience in handling litigated A&E matters through resolution and managing defense counsel. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting thorough investigations and analyzing gathered information.
- Accurately determining coverage, liability, and damages based on the specifics of each claim.
- Communicating written positions to insured parties and other relevant individuals on coverage, liability, damages, and other issues.
- Setting and regularly reviewing expense and indemnity reserves for adjustments.
- Presenting cases requiring authority beyond established levels to management.
- Developing resolution strategies through negotiations to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Proactively managing litigation, including planning, execution, budgeting, and bill review.
- Analyzing potential extra-contractual liabilities as necessary.
- Attending trials and mediations as needed.
- Contributing to broader enterprise goals by participating in audits, projects, training, and product development initiatives.
- Preparing comprehensive reports and delivering presentations on case developments, policy issues, and industry trends.
- Collaborating with business partners to evaluate and address claim trends and developments.
- Addressing inquiries from agents and policyholders, ensuring superior customer service.
- Providing training and marketing support to underwriters.
- Conducting contract reviews for insureds and brokers.
- Attending and presenting at industry events on risk management and claims topics.
- Coordinating a quarterly risk management newsletter.
- Organizing and presenting webinars and in-house seminars for high-profile insureds.
Education and Experience Information:
- A Juris Doctorate degree is preferred, though a bachelor's degree is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience handling litigated coverage and liability of professional liability cases and/or claims is required, with a strong preference for experience in architects & engineers cases.
- Experience with risk management contract reviews is a plus.
- Candidates should be disciplined, results-oriented, and focused on achieving bottom-line results.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.
- Strategic thinking ability and execution skills are required.
- Advanced technical claim handling skills, including knowledge of insurance coverage issues, are essential.
- Superior time management and task prioritization skills are needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively and influence others is important.
- Must be able to work with moderate supervision and have a team player attitude.
Additional Requirements:
- The role can be hybrid or remote, depending on proximity to office locations in Hartford, CT; San Antonio, TX; Lake Mary, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Naperville, IL.
- Candidates must obtain and maintain a State Adjuster’s License to process Property & Casualty Insurance Claims, with successful passage of the Licensing exam(s) required within 30 business days from the completion of licensing training.
- High-speed broadband internet service is required for remote work, with specific technical requirements for connectivity.
Salary Information:
The annualized base pay range for this role is $121,280 - $181,920. Actual base pay may vary based on factors such as performance, proficiency, and demonstrated competencies. The base pay is part of a comprehensive compensation package that may include bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
