Job Summary:
Amazon is seeking a highly motivated Corporate Counsel to join our Legal Department in supporting our Books business. This role will involve providing day-to-day and strategic legal advice to business partners, managing pre-litigation disputes and inquiries, and working closely with other legal teams and outside counsel on formal actions or investigations. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of legal experience, a Juris Doctor degree, and membership in one state bar or equivalent. Experience working in a law firm is also required.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide legal advice on new and existing business initiatives, negotiations, litigation, and regulatory matters
- Handle pre-litigation disputes and inquiries
- Inspect defects and identify corrective and preventative actions
- Manage discreet PR and Public Policy inquiries and escalations
- Work with Litigation and Competition teams and outside counsel on formal actions or investigations
- May require some domestic and international travel
About the Team:
The Books Legal team supports Amazon's Books business, including our in-house publisher, Amazon Publishing, and our self-publishing service, Kindle Direct Publishing.
Basic Qualifications:
- 5+ years of legal experience
- Juris Doctor degree and membership in one state bar or equivalent
- Experience working in a law firm
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in both corporate law firm and in-house work
- Litigation, regulatory legal practice, or competition policy experience
Salary Information:
- Base pay ranges from $138,500/year in our lowest geographic market up to $229,000/year in our highest geographic market
- Pay is based on factors such as market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience
- Additional forms of compensation, including equity and sign-on payments, may be provided as part of a total compensation package
