Job Responsibilities:
The Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) offers unpaid internships for law students, providing them with an opportunity to gain substantial work experience in various divisions and offices within the organization. The responsibilities of legal interns vary depending on the division or office they are assigned to. These assignments offer interns a platform to showcase and develop their writing, analytical, and advocacy skills. Interns may be tasked with a range of duties including:

- Conducting research and analysis on market issues and drafting memoranda summarizing findings.
- Preparing public statements and attending meetings with market participants.
- Assisting in the preparation and analysis of legal memoranda, pleadings, and other legal documents.
- Reviewing and analyzing evidence in ongoing investigations.
- Assisting attorneys with investigative testimonies, depositions, and discovery in the Division of Enforcement.
- Examining and assessing the adequacy of self-regulatory and rule enforcement programs in the Division of Market Oversight.
- Reviewing and analyzing swap execution facilities and designated contract market rules, as well as drafting summary memorandums.
- Conducting technical analyses of intricate regulations and preparing legal reports and fact summaries in the Market Participants Division.
- Collaborating with staff in the Office of International Affairs on international standards, legislative proposals, and regulatory requirements.

Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be currently enrolled and in good standing as a . or candidate in an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school. Applicants must have completed at least one year of law school by the requested start date. Education from institutions outside the . must be evaluated for equivalency to . education standards. The experience may have been gained in the public or private sector, or through volunteer service, with full-time work considered as one year of experience.

Salary Information:
This is an unpaid internship. Volunteers are not eligible to receive agency benefits, and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed.

Additional Information:
- Internships with the CFTC are offered year-round and can last from 12 weeks to 12 months.
- Students must be . Citizens or Nationals and enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university.
- A background investigation will determine suitability for federal employment.
- Interns are responsible for coordinating any course credit for externship positions with their educational institution.
