Job Title: Associate Claim Counsel – Design Professional Liability
Job Responsibilities:
- Analyze, investigate, and resolve Bond & Specialty Insurance (BSI) claims with varying levels of severity, following operational policies and under the active supervision of claims management.
- Prepare and present management reports that reflect loss development, potential/actual financial exposure, reserve adjustments, coverage issues, and strategies for claims and recovery.
- Retain, monitor, and manage outside counsel using litigation management plans and budgets.
- Communicate significant claim exposures with underwriting.
- Travel to and attend mediations, settlement conferences, claim conferences, field office visits, trials, and depositions.
- Identify all recovery opportunities and coordinate efforts with the Recovery Management Unit and Claim management.
- Refine policy interpretation and coverage analysis skills, including drafting coverage opinions with case law.
- Develop skills in negotiating settlements and resolutions, reviewing releases and settlement agreements, including confidentiality and non-disclosure provisions.
- Support underwriting marketing efforts through participation in broker and account visits, risk mitigation seminars, webinars, and authoring customer-focused white papers and articles.
- Review insured contracts for coverage issues in support of underwriting marketing efforts.
- Monitor marketplace conditions, conduct research, and draft reference materials to inform claim and underwriting colleagues about law impacting underwriting and claim decisions.
- Obtain and maintain required adjusters’ licenses.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience Information:
- One to five years of relevant legal or claim handling work experience.
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Juris Doctorate Degree required.
- Must be properly licensed, registered, or authorized, and in good standing, to practice law in the jurisdiction in which the candidate will be working.
Salary Information:
- The annual base salary range for this position is $87, to $144,. The actual salary will be determined by various factors, including the role's scope, complexity, location, the candidate's skills, education, training, credentials, experience, and other conditions of employment.
