Overview
The Counsel, In-House position at K-LOVE will provide legal advice and counsel in various areas including contract management, compliance, mergers and acquisitions, litigation, intellectual property, privacy, employment, risk management, training, and public relations. This role requires clear communication and collaboration with senior management, outside counsel, and internal parties. The success of this position will be measured by the ability to handle complex legal matters, offer strategic insights, and build strong relationships within the Ministry. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding and daily application of K-LOVE's values, mission, and biblical principles.

Responsibilities
The Counsel, In-House will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Contract management: Draft, review, and negotiate contracts in various areas, including real estate, technology, and marketing.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations, advising on industry-specific standards and corporate policies.
- Mergers and acquisitions: Provide legal support throughout the process, including due diligence and advising on structuring and documentation.
- Litigation: Oversee legal matters and represent the Ministry in legal proceedings.
- Intellectual property: Assist in managing, protecting, and enforcing the Ministry's intellectual property rights.
- Media: Provide legal advice on content creation, distribution, and compliance, including negotiating and drafting contracts and educating internal teams on legal issues.
- HR Partnership & Global Employment Practices: Partner with HR on employment-related matters and provide legal guidance on policies and procedures.
- Risk management: Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate and manage legal and operational risks.
- Training: Design and deliver legal training sessions for staff.
- Public relations: Serve as a liaison to internal and external stakeholders, ensuring clear and accurate communication.
- Privacy program: Support the development and implementation of the Ministry's privacy program.
- Collaboration with outside counsel: Work with external legal advisors and incorporate their recommendations into practical guidance for the Ministry.
- Template and process development: Create and update contract templates and improve contracting processes.
- Legal department process enhancement: Design and improve processes to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
- Legal strategy support: Provide counsel to cross-functional stakeholders and senior management on legal strategy.
- Regulatory strategy and compliance: Develop and manage regulatory strategies and ensure compliance.
- Subsidiary management: Oversee legal matters related to the Ministry's subsidiaries and affiliates.
- Cross-functional collaboration and in-office work: Collaborate with cross-functional teams in-person and maintain an in-office presence to ensure effective communication and alignment with Ministry goals.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate or similar degree from an accredited law school.
- Member in good standing with the Tennessee state bar association or other bar association.
- 1-10 years of experience as an attorney, with a background in general corporate law, business transactions, and compliance matters.
- Experience in a clerkship, law firm, corporate legal department, or equivalent setting.
- Knowledge of risk management practices.
- Experience in managing compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Proven track record in negotiating and drafting contracts.
- Ability to provide legal training to staff.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to build trust and work collaboratively with others.
- Sound judgment and ability to communicate risks effectively.
- High level of integrity and ability to work independently.
