Job Title: Tax Senior, State and Local Tax
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Senior, State and Local Tax, is responsible for applying industry knowledge and experience to assist clients in understanding tax implications related to their business objectives. The individual in this role will recommend alternative courses of action and identify methods for complying with tax regulations. Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting research to identify when research is needed, framing issues, analyzing facts, and reporting the analysis.
- Demonstrating understanding of various tax authorities and applying firm and professional standards for preparation of WTA and tax returns.
- Ensuring clients comply with applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens, tracking availability and filing requirements of client-related information, and applying tax compliance knowledge with accuracy and efficiency.
- Developing service in accordance with SOX rulings, ensuring tax engagement letters are adopted prior to engagement work commencing, and managing engagements.
- Conducting detailed reviews of tax returns, identifying issues, and communicating with clients to gather information.
- Preparing and reviewing taxability matrices for client transactions and ensuring timely review and accuracy of returns.
- Developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits, interpreting existing and new laws, and involving other state tax sub-specialty subject matter experts when appropriate.
- Handling routine questions from federal or state agencies and utilizing tax-related software for tasks.
- Developing specialization in taxation, managing services efficiently, and organizing internal CPE training sessions.
- Reviewing basic tax provisions and applying firm policies regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Introducing and developing ideas to advance the position of clients and the firm, reviewing studies of tax implications, and assisting with research of potential tax strategies.
- Building client relationships, providing technical client service to multi-state companies, and assisting with state and local income/franchise tax planning, consulting, and audit representation.
- Supervising work assignments of STS SALT Associates and providing performance feedback.
Education and Experience Information:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in Accounting/Taxation or . preferred.
- Two or more years of state and local/multistate experience required.
- CPA certification or other relevant certification preferred.
Salary Information:
Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of numerous factors, including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The salary range is as follows:
- National Range: $73,500 - $131,250
- Maryland Range: $73,500 - $131,250
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $73,500 - $131,250
- Washington DC Range: $73,500 - $131,250
