Job Title: Assistant Attorney General V
Job Responsibilities:
- Represent state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in lawsuits related to civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in both state and federal court.
- Manage all aspects of litigation, including legal research, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions (., motions for summary judgment), hearings, mediations, and trials across Texas as lead counsel and/or co-counsel.
- Provide excellent client service and collaborate effectively with other attorneys and staff within a dynamic office environment.
- Offer legal advice, counsel, and assistance to client state agencies and law enforcement entities.
- Perform related work as assigned and maintain the necessary knowledge to fulfil essential job functions.
- Regularly attend work in compliance with the agreed-upon schedule and ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including those related to ethics and integrity.
- Manage a docket of complex level cases.
Education and Experience Information:
- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree.
- Experience: Four years of full-time experience as a licensed attorney working in civil litigation or closely related fields.
- Must be licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas, eligible to practice law in Texas by the start date.
- Experience in civil litigation in both federal and state courts.
- Knowledge of relevant law and legal principles and practices.
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills, with a strong attention to detail and an organized work style.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, and meet deadlines.
- Effective oral and written communication skills (a writing sample may be required for selected interviewees).
- Proficiency in conducting legal research and exercising sound judgment and decision-making.
- Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment and provide excellent customer service.
- Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed, complying with the FLSA.
- Ability to work in person at the assigned OAG work location, perform all assigned tasks at the designated OAG workspace, and collaborate with coworkers (., collaborating, training, mentoring) for the entirety of every work week (unless on approved leave).
- Ability to lift and relocate 30 lbs and arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
- Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Four or more years as a licensed attorney practicing in civil litigation.
- Courtroom experience in state and/or federal court (., hearings, jury trials).
- Experience in trying at least two jury trials to a verdict in state and/or federal district court.
Salary Information:
- Salary (Pay Basis): 11, - 12, (Monthly).
