Job Title: Vice President, Product Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
- Implement strategy for product development to foster innovation while maintaining compliance and mitigating potential risk.
- Provide pragmatic, actionable legal advice throughout the product lifecycle in close partnership with the Digital Product Development team.
- Coordinate and assist in maintaining a robust Intellectual Property portfolio (including patents and trademarks) and manage product-related litigation.
- Stay current on and ensure compliance with . and international laws and regulations related to internet law, privacy, intellectual property, consumer protection, and advertising.
- Build strong internal client relationships, including with senior executives, across the company and its subsidiaries through strategic thinking and risk analysis.
- Work closely with the Chief Privacy Officer and collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and maintain legal resources, including terms of use, privacy policies, and other disclosures.
- Develop and implement internal product-related policies and processes, and provide training to relevant business and technical teams.
- Counsel on matters involving consumer-facing applications is preferred.
- Knowledge of ad tech matters, including advising on the advertising ecosystem, advertising products, and marketplace trends is a plus.
- Experience with hardware products intended for consumer use is a plus.
Education and Experience Information:
- 12+ years of legal experience, including 8+ years of direct product counseling in-house.
- A Juris Doctorate from a nationally recognized law school. Technical undergraduate degree preferred.
- Admission to at least one state bar.
- Strong law firm or in-house legal training and experience.
- Proven ability to set and implement strategic direction in collaboration with other senior executives.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively and influence internal clients across the organization.
- Strong analytical capabilities and judgment, particularly when navigating first-impression legal issues.
- Strong knowledge and experience with privacy-related issues, including CCPA and GDPR.
- Experience with intellectual property, open-source software, and data use issues.
- Ability to manage a high-volume varied workload efficiently and independently, while maintaining strong attention to detail and remaining level-headed in challenging situations.
- Communicate and resolve matters confidently, while maintaining the ability to pivot quickly and fluidly in consideration of appropriate business risks.
- Solutions-oriented approach and ability to provide actionable advice.
- Ability to think creatively, devise solutions to challenging problems, and demonstrate strong business acumen.
- Curiosity and willingness to tackle matters outside of primary areas of expertise.
- Willingness to take initiative and drive projects to completion.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have legal right to work in the United States.
Salary Information:
- The base salary for this position is expected to be in the range of $246,000 - $300,000, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience.
- The role might be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives.
