BASE SALARY: $96,594 + $4,775 LOCATION PAY

The New York State Unified Court System is currently seeking to fill one (1) Senior Court Attorney position at Family Court in New York City. This position will be filled under the Court Attorney Series and candidates who have already applied to posting #22422 need not reapply and will be considered for this position.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

- Research and analyze complex legal issues and questions
- May be responsible for supervision of attorneys and support staff in one or more courts
- Serve in a confidential capacity under the supervision of judges or groups of judges
- Assigned to judges designated as Acting Justices of the Supreme Court for one full term or less

RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Research and analyze legal questions and issues
- Review and prepare cases for trial, including conducting case conferences
- Draft confidential opinions
- Confer with lawyers on unusual or complex proceedings
- Assist with on-boarding and training of new court attorneys
- Serve as a liaison between the supervising judge and court staff, counsel, and outside agencies
- Assist with equal justice initiatives, including community-based outreach
- Review and respond to complaint letters
- Review and assess cases for appropriate ADR referrals
- Assist with the management of caseloads of retiring or on leave judges and jurists
- Provide court attorney assistance for judges when their court attorney is on leave or absent
- Review adoptions and support objections
- Assist with on-boarding and training new jurists
- Sit on court committees/sub-committees
- Assist with special projects coordinated by the supervising judge

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Two (2) years of relevant legal experience, including up to 18 months of pre-admission experience

- The appointee may be subject to reassignment to any position in the same title in this promotion unit dependent upon the needs of the Unified Court System
