Job Title: Environmental Partner
Job Responsibilities:
The Environmental Partner will be responsible for leading the Environmental Practice at the law firm. The key responsibilities include:
- Handling all aspects of environmental concerns for sophisticated clients of various sizes and across different industries.
- Acting as lead environmental counsel in mergers and acquisitions, focusing on CERCLA and other environmental liabilities.
- Assessing environmental risks through due diligence processes and determining the appropriate allocation of risks in M&A transactions.
- Drafting environmental provisions for legal documents and assessing the need for environmental insurance and permitting transfers.
- Managing hazardous waste disposal issues, including RCRA applications and CERCLA liability, and representing potentially responsible parties in CERCLA cleanups.
- Critically evaluating Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments and other property assessments in the context of CERCLA liability.
- Collaborating with environmental consultants, opposing counsel, and maintaining effective client communication.
- Providing client counsel on federal and state environmental laws, permitting, and compliance issues.
- Offering business development experience and significant responsibility on complex legal matters.
- Serving as a business advisor to clients, guiding them through a range of legal matters throughout their life cycle.
- Maintaining a portable book of business.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of ten years of experience practicing environmental law.
- Significant experience in assessing environmental risks in M&A transactions, drafting environmental provisions, and dealing with environmental insurance.
- Experience with CERCLA cleanups and RCRA application.
- Strong familiarity with environmental law areas such as CWA, CAA, RCRA, TSCA, ESA, and state analogs.
- Additional knowledge in emerging contaminants, renewable energy, endangered species law, wetlands delineations, and corporate environmental stewardship.
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, with the ability to assume individual responsibility and interact directly with clients.
- Currently licensed to practice law in Illinois or Colorado, or eligible to waive in or sit for the bar exam in these states.
