We are currently seeking a Senior Claims Counsel to join our Financial Lines Claim team at CNA, a leading insurance company in the USA. In this role, you will have the opportunity to handle complex, high severity claims for financial institutions, such as large depository institutions, insurance companies, asset managers, private equity and venture capital firms, and REITs.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of twelve years of relevant experience and a strong understanding of liability, damages, and coverage issues. As a senior member of our team, you will have the responsibility of handling a pending of approximately 75 of the unit’s highest severity matters at any given time. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate closely with our internal business partners on claim trends and issues, as well as mentor junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

- Handle complex, high severity financial lines claims and provide legal analysis of complicated liability, damages, and coverage issues
- Draft coverage letters, memos, and reports
- Represent CNA in settlement negotiations and interact with multiple parties, including insureds, brokers, counsel, claimants, and mediators
- Partner with underwriters, product counsel, and actuary to respond to policy wording and claim inquiries
- Meet with brokers and clients to address issues and contribute to business marketing, growth, and retention strategies
- Develop and analyze new products and identify and track claim trends and issues
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to junior staff members
- Develop and present training on key legal and industry issues/trends for the financial lines team
- Represent CNA on panels at industry conferences

Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree with JD and admission to the bar of at least one state
- Minimum of twelve years of claims and/or legal experience with a proven track record of exceptional claim results
- Senior level knowledge of litigation management, insurance and claims principles, practices, and procedures
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and maintain confidentiality
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software
