Job Title: Senior Associate/Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Associate/Counsel will work within the litigation department, focusing on the defense of complex product liability matters including environmental, asbestos, and talc cases, as well as commercial disputes. The role requires collaboration with policyholders, brokers, and both domestic and international insurers, including those in the London Market. Responsibilities include:
- Taking depositions, attending hearings, and participating in mediations as required.
- Drafting pleadings and briefs.
- Preparing correspondence to colleagues and clients.
- Conducting legal research using Westlaw/Lexis/Nexis.
- Drafting interrogatories and document demands.
- Reviewing document collections in preparation for litigation.
- Submitting filings to the court.
Education and Experience:
- A Juris Doctor (.) or Master of Laws (LLM) degree is required.
- Admission to practice law in New Jersey and New York is mandatory.
- Experience in commercial litigation is required, with asbestos/toxic tort experience being ideal.
- Courtroom experience, including handling motions, is required.
- Trial experience is a must.
Skills and Ability:
- Exceptional legal writing and communication skills are necessary.
- Strong interpersonal skills are essential for managing relationships.
- The ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects efficiently is required.
- Quick problem-solving abilities are crucial for this role.
Salary Information:
The salary for a Senior Associate ranges from $170,000 to $190,000, while the Counsel-level position offers a salary between $210,000 and $250,000. Compensation decisions are based on various factors including skill sets, experience, training, licensure, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Typically, individuals are not hired at the top of the salary range, as compensation is determined by the specific facts and circumstances of each case.
