Job Title: Counsel
Job Responsibilities:
The Counsel is responsible for providing comprehensive legal support to Medicaid plan operations across various states. This includes reviewing and analyzing state, provider, and vendor contracts, as well as assessing existing state and federal laws and any new legislation that could impact plan operations. The Counsel will offer advice and support to various business units on operational matters and business initiatives. They are tasked with responding to legal issues related to Medicaid health plans, including state, member, provider, and vendor relationships. Additionally, the Counsel assists the business in addressing legal inquiries from both internal and external sources. Collaborative work across the Legal team and with other teams, such as Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management, is essential. The Counsel is expected to build strong relationships with assigned markets and become a trusted advisor to market and segment leaders.
Education and Experience Information:
- Juris Doctorate degree from an ABA-accredited law school.
- Active admission to at least one state bar association with the ability to register as in-house, if required by the applicable jurisdiction(s).
- A current, unrestricted license to practice law.
- At least 3-5 years of experience working in the healthcare industry.
- A strong understanding of Federal and State healthcare benefit programs, such as Medicare, Medicaid/CHIP/MLTSS, and DSNP.
- Strong legal writing and analytical skills, with the ability to manage work and tasks independently.
- Critical thinking skills and the ability to navigate complex legal issues in a timely manner.
- Ability to identify regulatory and business barriers and work through them to find viable business solutions.
- Ability to work independently and in team settings as needed.
- Ability to continuously reassess priorities to meet various internal and external expectations and deadlines.
- Deep understanding of Medicaid (Federal and State) regulations, policies, and state contracts.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively communicate legal issues and concerns.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Five or more years of experience working at a reputable law firm, as in-house counsel for a healthcare company, or at a government agency with a focus on healthcare.
- Experience working directly with State Medicaid agency/agencies.
Salary Information:
The compensation range for this full-time position is estimated to be between $138,900 and $191,000 per year. This range may vary based on geographic location and individual qualifications, including job-related skills, knowledge, experience, education, and certifications. The position is also eligible for a bonus incentive plan based on company and/or individual performance.
Additional Information:
- The position is remote, with a preferred location in Georgia. Alternative locations include Louisville, KY (hybrid); Virginia/WDC (hybrid); and Chicago, IL (hybrid).
- Occasional travel to company offices for training or meetings may be required.
