Job Title: Associate Attorney
Job Responsibilities:
As an Associate Attorney in the Tax Controversy Services (TCS) department, you will have the opportunity to represent small and mid-size companies in defending their rights against challenges from both state and federal government bodies. This role requires you to leverage your litigation skills and engage with C-level executives and senior-level professionals, providing a platform to learn extensively about various industries and business operations nationwide. Key responsibilities include:
- Evaluating evidence and developing realistic case assessments to position clients for success.
- Developing and implementing strategies for client representation during federal and/or state examinations.
- Gathering, reviewing, and analyzing necessary documentation for federal and/or state government requests.
- Drafting and preparing information for presentation to government bodies.
- Preparing witnesses and participating in client interviews with government representatives.
- Preparing and presenting client cases before government entities.
- Conducting legal research and drafting memoranda and other documents for submission to government agencies.
- Serving as the main contact between clients and government bodies to provide exceptional client service.
- Managing and maintaining client relationships and working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to drive results.
Education and Experience Information:
The role requires a Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent degree and an active license to practice law in any state. Preferred candidates will have at least two years of experience as an attorney and the ability to manage their own docket. Litigation experience, including depositions and trial preparation or participation, is preferred. Candidates should possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, be highly professional, competitive, and collaborative, and have a strong career-oriented mindset. A high sense of urgency, the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing priorities, and receptiveness to performance feedback within a team environment are essential. Candidates must be available to travel 15-25% within the United States and either reside or be willing to relocate to Houston, TX.
