Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide coverage, including court appearances and depositions, throughout Pennsylvania.
- Draft findings of fact, conclusions of law, and briefs to workers’ compensation judges.
- Write appellate briefs and occasional appeals to the Workers’ Compensation Appeal Board.
- Prepare petitions to review, docketing statements, statements of issues, moving and responding briefs, reproduced records, and motions to the Commonwealth Court.
- Research legal issues on a variety of workers’ compensation issues.
- Read published appellate decisions and draft case summaries.
- Review and screen new client matters to determine the likelihood of success.
- Consider and evaluate other income that would reduce the value of the disability benefit at issue.
- Identify appeal or statute of limitation deadlines.
- Review medical and vocational records.
- Provide reasonable expectations regarding timing concerns.
- Prepare clients and claims for hearings, including telephone conferences, preparing briefs, reviewing files/e-files, recommending both pre and post hearing actions, and completing post hearing summaries.
- Delegate matters as appropriate to a case manager and case manager support specialist.
- Manage all aspects of client relationships, including meetings and telephone conferences, to address questions regarding claim.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (.) and Bachelor’s degree (.) from four-year college or university.
- One to four years of Workers’ Compensation experience (defense or claimant).
- One to three years of Social Security Disability experience.
- Must be able to provide own transportation and travel to hearings as needed.
