Staff Attorney, Victim Services

Job Responsibilities:
The Staff Attorney, Victim Services role involves providing direct legal services and advocacy for older victims in Philadelphia, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery Counties. Key responsibilities include:

Client-Related Responsibilities:
- Manage all aspects of client representation, including screening and interviewing clients, conducting interviews, filing court documents, preparing case strategies, and attending court appearances.
- Assess holistic legal needs of clients and make internal and external referrals.
- Provide technical assistance to staff and volunteer attorneys.
- Handle case-related tasks such as prescreen data entry, preparing retainers and letters, drafting court documents, and maintaining case files.
- Conduct home visits to frail or homebound clients and utilize interpretation services for Limited English Proficient older adults.
- Provide information and referrals to older tenants and link them to supportive services.

Community Outreach and Education:
- Represent the organization at professional committees and coalitions related to older adult victimization.
- Develop and present legal education workshops to prevent victimization and promote self-identification or referrals to needed services.
- Aid in the development of educational materials and best practices resources for professionals.
- Assist with community clinics focused on older victims of crime and coordinate with the Project Director for project-related communications.

Additional Responsibilities:
- Participate in project-related meetings, staff, and legal team meetings.
- Support colleagues across the organization and assist with onboarding as needed.
- Adhere to the organization's personnel and legal policies and procedures, and demonstrate commitment to its mission and values.
- Participate in the organization's culture of philanthropy and support events.
- Assist with quality control and case management data collection and reporting.

Project-Based Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide civil legal assistance to victims of crime, including filing protection from abuse petitions, quiet title actions, and representing victims in various civil legal matters.
- Offer information, support, and advocacy in related criminal proceedings, collaborating with police and District Attorneys as necessary.
- Work with Legal Advocate for appropriate safety planning and legal tools to ensure the victim's safety.
- Identify systemic problems affecting older victims and develop solutions with local, statewide, and national partners.

Education and Experience Information:
Required Education and Experience:
- Juris Doctor degree.
- Active member of the Pennsylvania Bar in good standing.
- At least two years of civil litigation experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
- Experience with victims of crime and/or violence.
- Second language proficiency preferred.
- Courtroom experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Behaviors:
- Motivated self-starter with high-quality advocacy and negotiating skills.
- Highly professional, organized, energetic, flexible, and culturally sensitive.
- Excellent writing, organizational, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Interest and ability to work with older people and persons of different backgrounds.

Salary Information:
This is a full-time exempt hybrid position based in Philadelphia. The position offers excellent benefits, including fully paid health and dental for the employee, long- and short-term disability, 401k, flexible spending plan, and generous holidays and leave time, valued at over $20,000. The starting salary is $66,000, commensurate with years of experience and the organization's salary structure. Note that the organization has a mandatory COVID vaccination policy for all staff and volunteers.
