Job Description:

Organization Profile: The **Members Only**, under Article 18B of the County Law, has been providing quality legal services to indigent individuals charged with criminal offenses since 1966. The services are funded by the City of New York through the Mayor’s Office of Criminal Justice. The ACP compensates private attorneys for representing indigent clients when a conflict prevents institutional providers from offering representation.

The Supervising Attorney for Training, Assigned Counsel Plan is responsible for creating, implementing, and managing training, mentoring, and continuing legal education (CLE) programs for 18-B Panel attorneys. This includes covering areas such as criminal law, evidence, criminal procedure, immigration, and other relevant fields that affect the representation of indigent persons charged with crimes.

Job Responsibilities:
- Initiate outreach to 18-B Panel attorneys, courts, bar associations, and other organizations to assess training needs and ensure the Assigned Counsel Plan conducts training and CLE designed for preparing 18-B panel attorneys.
- Identify and engage presenters with expertise in various categories and collaborate with them to make classes useful and educational for 18-B panel attorneys.
- Develop training and CLE classes in multiple formats, including live training and webinars.
- Arrange for the recording of live programs and webinars and post previously recorded sessions online.
- Create new and update existing materials for training sessions.
- Implement pre- and post-training assessments, utilizing data from these assessments to guide future programming.
- Track registration and attendance of 18-B Panel attorneys at training and CLE programs, coordinating with the Office of Continuing Legal Education to meet state requirements.
- Inform 18-B Panel attorneys of training and CLE opportunities offered by bar associations, law schools, courts, and defender advocacy groups.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Admission to the New York State Bar.
- Four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar.
- Eighteen months of experience must include supervision of other attorneys in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
- Incumbents must remain members of the New York State Bar in good standing throughout their employment.

Preferred Skills:
- Supervisory and management experience is preferred.
- Extensive legal experience with the capability of being an effective self-starter.
- Ability to work independently and cooperatively to advance the goals of the ACP.
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of entities, including government agencies, other prosecutorial and regulatory bodies, and community organizations.
- Effective and creative leadership ability, with the capacity to work both independently and cooperatively to implement key strategies, evaluate new policies, and analyze new legislation.
