Job Responsibilities:
The internship program at the Office of the Attorney General provides law students with practical experience in various legal fields. Interns are primarily involved in:
- Assisting in civil investigations and litigation related to state and federal antitrust laws, preserving competition, and reviewing mergers and acquisitions.
- Enforcing consumer protection laws against deceptive or unfair practices, investigating business practices, and participating in litigation to secure settlements or judgments.
- Representing and defending state prosecutions in criminal appeals and handling death penalty litigation.
- Representing the state in civil lawsuits including administrative, bankruptcy, corrections, eminent domain, employment, and tort litigation.
- Handling complex litigation involving constitutional challenges, statutory interpretation, and litigation across multiple jurisdictions.
- Providing legal services to state agencies, representing them in hearings and courts, and offering general counsel services.
- Enforcing child support orders, modifying orders, and representing cases in front of various judicial officers.
- Representing the Department of Revenue in tax-related litigation and property tax responsibilities.
- Prosecuting ethics violations under the Florida Code of Ethics and serving as advocates in ethics commission prosecutions.
- Enforcing compliance with Florida’s motor vehicle Lemon Law and resolving disputes between consumers and manufacturers.
- Investigating and prosecuting Medicaid fraud involving fraudulent billing practices and patient abuse or neglect in Medicaid-funded facilities.
- Prosecuting organized criminal activity that spans multiple judicial circuits, coordinating with law enforcement and state attorneys.
- Combating cybercrimes related to fraud and identity theft, and enforcing consumer protection laws against technology-based scams.
- Handling the State’s complex litigation, supervising appeals, and advising the Attorney General on sensitive legal matters.
Education and Experience Information:
- The internship program is open to students enrolled in an accredited ABA law school.
- Internships are unpaid and intended for students seeking academic credit or participating in law school-sponsored programs such as Pro Bono Programs, Law School Clinics, or Law School Paid Stipend Programs.
- Students must intern a minimum of 20 hours per week or as prescribed by their institution.
- 2nd and 3rd-year law students should provide a writing sample if selected for an interview.
- Required documentation includes an application for internship, a résumé, a letter from an advisor or university confirming enrollment and eligibility for credit or program participation, and an official transcript (unofficial accepted initially).
Salary Information:
- The internship is unpaid, and interns are not eligible for compensation or benefits, except for Worker’s Compensation benefits.

- A preliminary background screening, including a criminal background check, is mandatory.
