The Federal Public Defender's Office for the Southern District of Florida is currently offering a unique opportunity for law students to gain hands-on experience in the preparation of defense in federal criminal cases. This internship, managed by the Federal Public Defender and staffed by Assistant Federal Public Defenders, investigators, and support personnel, provides students with valuable experience in the federal court system.
The internship is open to law students currently enrolled in law school, who will have the chance to conduct legal research, assist in drafting motions and briefs, and participate in trial preparation and case investigation. They will also have the opportunity to observe attorneys in court proceedings, providing them with a well-rounded understanding of the criminal defense process.
The Federal Public Defender's Office has a limited number of placements for non-salaried legal interns, who are encouraged to work a minimum of 12 hours per week during the school year and 40 hours per week for summer interns. Students may also receive school credit for their internship, with the office willing to work with schools to meet any necessary requirements.
