Job Title: Senior Paralegal

Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Paralegal position is embedded within the Housing and Civil Enforcement Section of the Civil Rights Division at the . Department of Justice. This role is pivotal in supporting the enforcement of federal laws and regulations that prohibit unlawful discrimination in various sectors such as voting, education, employment, housing, police services, public accommodations, commercial facilities, and federally funded and conducted programs.

Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting case preparation and evaluation, performing legal and factual research, and assisting in trial preparation.
- Engaging in witness interviews and offering other paralegal support functions.
- Assisting attorneys by reading documents aloud, proofreading, drafting, or revising legal documents, and explaining content through charts or graphs.
- Utilizing assistive technologies for the blind, such as JAWS software, to support attorneys.
- Preparing for and assisting during telephone calls, meetings, depositions, trials, and court hearings.
- Traveling with attorneys as needed and managing logistical aspects of trials, hearings, and depositions.
- Contacting and interviewing potential witnesses, and assisting in their preparation for court appearances and depositions.
- Managing exhibits and courtroom presentation technology during legal proceedings.
- Conducting legal research, identifying inconsistencies in text, and handling sensitive information with discretion and confidentiality.

Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a paralegal certificate, JD, or current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed. Additionally, candidates must have a minimum of two years of litigation paralegal experience, including one year of experience in automated litigation support. A sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and resources such as LEXIS and Westlaw is essential. Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as hands-on familiarity with various computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, and imaging systems. Advanced skills with Excel and a valid driver’s license are also required. The position necessitates five days per week onsite work in Washington, ., and the ability to travel is essential.

Desired qualifications include Spanish language skills, experience with cite checking/Bluebooking, and trial experience.
