Job Title: Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
The Law Clerk position offers an opportunity to work within the **Members Only** at the Trial Court level and gain insight into judicial and court processes. This role involves working directly with a District Court Judge to uphold the court's mission of providing justice. Major job duties include:

- Reviewing, analyzing, and researching laws, court decisions, opinions, briefs, and related legal authorities.
- Preparing orders and legal memoranda for judicial use.
- Conferring with judicial officers concerning legal questions, document construction, and granting of orders.
- Attending court sessions to hear oral arguments and recording necessary case information; maintaining records related to court proceedings.
- Preparing jury instructions and verdict forms.
- Responding to telephone calls and written inquiries from the public and attorneys.
- Performing courtroom duties, such as calling the calendar, swearing in jury panels and witnesses, taking court minutes, and assisting in various court proceedings, including arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials.

Education and Experience Information:
To be considered for employment as a Law Clerk, candidates must meet the following qualifications:

- Graduation from an accredited law school at the time of employment.
- For Law Clerk 1 (student) positions, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and current enrollment in and completion of at least one year of law school training at an accredited law school is required.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary.
- Strong organization and time management skills are essential.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of court practices and procedures, terminology, and concepts.
- Ability to research complex legal problems or questions and apply legal principles.

Preferred qualifications include:
- Concise and efficient writing skills, including experience in law review, law journal, or legal clinics.
- An attorney who has taken and passed the Minnesota Bar Exam.

Salary Information:
The starting salary for a Law Clerk is per hour. Applicants hired prior to graduation from an accredited law school will be hired into the Law Clerk I job classification at per hour until graduation. Applicants with paralegal experience may be considered for the Judge Unit Paralegal classification. The salary range for this position is as follows:

- Minimum Salary: per hour ($65,229 per year)
- Mid Salary: per hour ($72,934 per year)
- Maximum Salary: per hour ($80,618 per year)

Additional Information:
This is a full-time, unrepresented position primarily performed at the Lake County Courthouse and occasionally at the Cook County Courthouse and Carlton County Courthouse. The typical work hours are 8:00 . to 4:30 ., Monday through Friday. The position may involve a hybrid work arrangement, requiring reliable internet access for remote work.
