Job Title: Winter 2026 Legal Intern
Job Responsibilities:
- Engage in high-volume trial lawyer teams, immersing in the practical aspects of the legal profession.
- Participate actively in all facets of the criminal justice system, including hands-on courtroom experience and one-on-one client interactions.
- Conduct extensive research and writing tasks.
- Appear on the record within actual courtrooms under the supervision of experienced trial attorneys.
- Collaborate with the Arraignment Division on weekends for weekend arraignments, subject to availability.
- Attend comprehensive orientations and reviews scheduled for Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall terms to prepare for roles and address any queries.
Education and Experience Information:
- Applicants must be enrolled in law school or an accredited college.
- A strong academic record is required.
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for criminal law and public defense.
- Successful candidates should display a commitment to justice, integrity, and a desire to make a positive impact in the lives of those they represent.
Internship Program Details:
- The program accommodates approximately 40 interns each term.
- Interns must commit to a minimum of two days per week, dedicating 4 to 6 hours each day, resulting in a weekly total of 8 to 12 hours.
- Social work and investigator interns may have schedule variations based on school requirements and caseloads at the office.
- Interns can coordinate their schedules within operational hours, Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5 pm.
- Internships are offered during Winter/Spring, Summer, and Fall terms.
- Interns may earn course credit through their universities and must coordinate necessary arrangements for this with their respective institutions.
Application Process:
- Application Deadline for Winter 2026: December 19, 2025.
- Orientation Date: January 9, 2026.
- Tentative Program Dates: January 12, 2026, to April 30, 2026.
- Interested candidates should submit an updated resume, a cover letter detailing their interest in the program and public defense, a short essay, and any other relevant documents.
- Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and a waitlist is available once the program reaches full capacity for a term.
