Job Title: Sr. Counsel - Digital Wallet and Payments
Job Responsibilities:
The Sr. Counsel for Digital Wallet and Payments at the company is tasked with providing comprehensive legal support to the company’s digital wallet and payments businesses. The primary duties include offering creative legal counsel and advice on complex legal issues to the wallet and payments business teams throughout the product development lifecycle. This role involves advising on, drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of complex commercial agreements and strategic technology transactions with financial institutions, merchant acquirers, payment gateways, payment processors, and service providers. Additionally, the Sr. Counsel proactively manages large-scale initiatives and collaborates with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to enable business objectives. The role requires staying informed about legislative, regulatory, and industry developments relevant to the business, partnering with Risk teams and other members of the Legal Department to provide solution-oriented support while balancing potential legal, regulatory, and other risks, and supporting the company’s commitment to protect the integrity and confidentiality of systems and data.
Education and Experience Information:
The position requires a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to one or more State bars. Candidates must have over 8 years of relevant legal experience, specifically in advising on digital wallets and payment systems and negotiating complex commercial agreements in the payments industry. The candidate should possess knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry standards applicable to the payments industry, and have experience working in or the ability to quickly learn and support new areas of regulation and technology. The role demands the ability to work independently yet collaboratively in a fast-paced and collegial team environment, a practical and solution-oriented mindset, highly effective verbal and written communication and presentation skills across all levels of the organization, strong business acumen, and an unyielding commitment to the highest professional ethics. A background and drug screen are also required.
Salary Information:
The base pay scale for this position varies by location. In Phoenix, AZ, and Chicago, IL, the salary range is $200,000 to $230,000 per year. In New York, NY, and San Francisco, CA, the salary range is $230,000 to $260,000 per year. Additionally, candidates are eligible for a discretionary incentive plan and benefits. This pay scale is subject to change and is not necessarily reflective of actual compensation that may be earned, nor a promise of any specific pay for any specific candidate, which is always dependent on legitimate factors considered at the time of job offer.
