Job Title: Tax Manager, SALT Indirect Tax Automation (ITA)
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager for SALT Indirect Tax Automation at the company is tasked with implementing indirect tax automation tools, such as Vertex O Series, Vertex Q Series, Vertex Indirect Tax Returns, OneSource Indirect Tax Determination, OneSource Compliance, Sovos (Taxware), and Avalara AvaTax. This role involves hands-on, client-facing work, focusing on the design, build, and configuration of optimal tax system solutions. The manager will also participate in business development activities, which include preparing proposals and fee estimates, leading training at client locations, and providing post-implementation support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing tax technology tools and maintaining a working knowledge of leading indirect tax technology tools.
- Designing and implementing tax compliance systems.
- Applying knowledge of various tax filing requirements at the state and local levels.
- Learning new tools as required for client implementations.
- Serving as the Project Lead and Project Manager on indirect tax software implementations.
- Managing system integration projects involving major ERP and billing systems like SAP, Oracle, PeopleSoft, JD Edwards, MS365/AX, NetSuite, etc.
- Leading system implementation and integration projects from start to finish.
- Delivering projects on time and within budget.
- Collaborating with clients to understand the broader context of projects.
- Reviewing complex client requirements to derive best-in-class design for tax technology tool implementation.
- Managing client expectations and communicating complex technical items effectively.
- Developing customized applications for various database platforms.
- Developing sales tax automation proposals and participating in sales and proposal development meetings.
- Participating in speaking engagements and developing thought leadership content for tax automation.
Supervisory Responsibilities include supervising and training staff as appropriate.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- A Bachelor's Degree is required, with a focus in Accounting, Information Systems, or Computer Science preferred.
Experience:
- A minimum of four years of work experience with direct involvement in indirect tax system implementation projects is required.
- Successful implementation experience with indirect tax systems such as Vertex, Thomson Reuters, Avalara, and Sovos is required.
Licenses/Certifications:
- A licensed CPA, EA, JD/LLM, MTX, CMI, PMP demonstrating above-average knowledge of indirect tax application is preferred.
- Certification as a Vertex, Thomson Reuters, Avalara, or Sovos Indirect Tax System Implementer is preferred.
Software Proficiency:
- Required proficiency in indirect tax determination systems such as Vertex, OneSource, Sovos, or Avalara.
- Preferred proficiency in indirect tax compliance systems such as Vertex Returns, OneSource Compliance, Avalara compliance, and indirect tax exemption certificates modules.
- Preferred knowledge of Alteryx, Power BI, and RPA.
- Strong knowledge of MS Excel, MS Access, and MS PowerPoint is preferred.

- Solid verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong people skills, including training and instruction capabilities.
- Executive presence and client relationship-building skills.
- Sound decision-making skills and ability to work within teams.
- Basic knowledge in engagement management, including budget preparation, project plans, engagement letters, billing, and collection.
- Ability to complete projects independently.
- Travel requirement of 25-40%.
Salary Information:
Individual salaries offered to candidates are determined after consideration of various factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.
- National Range: $79,800 - $168,000
- Maryland Range: $79,800 - $168,000
- NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $79,800 - $168,000
- Washington DC Range: $79,800 - $168,000
