Job Title: Tax Manager, Core Tax Services
Job Responsibilities:
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services is tasked with advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives. This includes evaluating and selecting alternative actions to minimize tax burdens and compliance costs, identifying different methods of complying with tax regulations, and serving as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. The manager applies their knowledge to understand potential tax issues and communicates potential risks and changes in tax policy. Additionally, the role involves marketing, networking, and business development within an area of expertise and specialization, and providing written tax advice to clients.
Key duties include:
Tax Compliance:
- Ensuring clients comply with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
- Conducting top-level review of tax returns and resolving tax issues with clients.
- Planning and reviewing tax processes and procedures, including budgeting, staffing, and billing.
- Managing client relationships and providing timely advice.
Research:
- Identifying when research is needed and reporting analysis.
- Applying firm and professional standards for tax return preparation.
ASC 740-10 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) Tax Accruals:
- Correctly applying firm policies regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48.
- Explaining components of income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients.
Tax Consulting:
- Assisting in developing methods to maximize client benefits by decreasing taxes.
- Serving as a technical resource and ensuring compliance with firm policy.
Tax Specialization:
- Developing an understanding of technical and practical issues in one or more areas of taxation.
- Organizing and conducting internal training sessions.
Strategy Development:
- Introducing new ideas to improve client and firm positions.
- Reviewing tax implications and offering clients alternative actions.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervising associates and senior associates on projects.
- Reviewing work prepared by team members and providing feedback.
- Training team members on software tools.
- Acting as a Career Advisor and managing workloads.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics.
- Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience:
- Five or more years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services required.
- Prior supervisory experience required.
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
- Other professional degrees or certifications applicable to the role preferred.
Software:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
- Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
