Staff Attorney – Family Law – Metro Region
Job Responsibilities:
The staff attorney will provide legal assistance to clients in contested family law matters, including custody disputes, domestic abuse cases, and other family law issues. The attorney is responsible for representing eligible clients in court, with cases venued throughout the organization's service areas. The role requires maintaining a caseload in compliance with the organization's written practice standards and observing its policies, practices, and guiding principles to further its mission. The attorney will also engage in community education, outreach, intake responsibilities, and active bar participation. Additional duties include accepting supervision and other assignments as necessary.
Education and Experience Information:
Candidates must be licensed to practice law in Minnesota. A minimum of two years of family law practice, with courtroom experience, is preferred. The position demands demonstrated ability to work effectively with low-income clients, victims of domestic abuse, and individuals from diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Excellent communication skills are required, alongside the ability to work positively and constructively within a team setting. The role requires good judgment, the ability to work independently, efficiently, and under pressure. Flexibility and willingness to take on additional duties as assigned are essential. The attorney must be willing and able to travel to court proceedings, outreach/education activities, and other events required by the organization throughout its service area. Competence with computers is necessary.
Salary Information:
The starting salary is $80,010+ according to the scale, plus fringe benefits.
