Senior Claim Handler at Brandywine - Pittsburgh, PA

Job Description:

The Senior Claim Handler at Brandywine is responsible for handling complex asbestos, long term exposure, and environmental claims. This position reports to a Vice President and is responsible for all aspects of claim handling from initial notice to resolution. The ideal candidate will have a high degree of technical competence in handling high exposure claims, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience. This person should also have a strong understanding of contracts, policies, and applicable laws in order to determine appropriate coverage positions and resolve claims effectively.

Responsibilities:

- Analyze contracts, policies, and applicable law to determine coverage position and resolve claims on reasonable terms and at an appropriate value
- Conduct/manage factual claims investigation and communicate with policyholders, remediation experts, and counsel to gather all necessary claim facts
- Negotiate cost sharing agreements with carriers and policyholders
- Assign defense counsel and manage litigation strategy and budgets
- Evaluate claims and make recommendations to management for resolution plans
- Maintain physical and electronic claim files and information in claim systems
- Respond to internal requests for information from management, reinsurers, auditors, etc.
- Provide exceptional service to Chubb business partners
- Some travel may be required

Qualifications:

- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in handling high exposure claims, preferably with a focus on asbestos and/or environmental claims
- 4-year college degree
- Law degree preferred

Desired Qualifications:

- Experience directly managing defense counsel
- Experience managing disputed/litigated coverage matters
- Experience interpreting and analyzing general liability policies
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to effectively use claim and financial tracking systems
- Strong organization and time management skills
- Experience collaborating across work groups
- Extensive knowledge of Excel and data management tools
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office utilities
