Job Title: Senior Manager, Accounting Methods
Job Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager, Accounting Methods at the company is tasked with helping companies optimize their federal tax accounting methods. This role involves collaborating with both public and private companies to identify federal tax benefits and rectify federal tax exposures. Key responsibilities include:
Research:
- Identifying situations requiring research and conducting necessary investigations.
- Confirming the accuracy of facts and sources.
- Preparing studies on tax implications and outlining alternative courses of action for clients.
- Composing effective research memos and developing presentations for marketing and sales.
Tax Compliance:
- Ensuring clients comply with applicable authorities.
- Identifying options to minimize client tax and reporting burdens.
- Communicating risks related to “gray areas” to partners.
- Completing workpapers and tax return forms while meeting firm risk management and tax quality control standards.
Tax Consulting:
- Developing and implementing solutions to maximize client tax benefits.
- Staying informed on legal and factual developments affecting clients’ tax accounting methods.
- Identifying process improvements for documentation and support of STS Accounting Methods on exams and appeals.
Tax Controversy:
- Representing clients before tax authorities.
- Responding to inquiries from federal and state tax authorities on tax accounting methods issues.
Tax Specialization:
- Developing an in-depth understanding of tax accounting methods issues and opportunities.
- Identifying client opportunities and issues related to other tax specializations.
Strategy Development:
- Developing new strategies to benefit clients and the firm.
- Suggesting marketing approaches for new client acquisition.
Marketing and Business Development:
- Exhibiting thought leadership in Tax Accounting Methods.
- Working with partners and business development managers to develop and execute marketing plans.
- Preparing and delivering presentations to pitch service capabilities to clients.
- Preparing proposals, statements of work, and engagement letters.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervising the day-to-day work of STS Accounting Methods Senior Associates and Associates.
- Ensuring team members are well-trained and evaluating their performance.
- Acting as a Career Advisor to team members.
Education and Experience Information:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; preferred in Accounting, Tax, or Finance.
- Master’s degree preferred.
- Juris Doctorate (.) preferred.
Experience:
- Seven or more years of federal tax client service experience required.
- Prior experience supervising tax consulting professionals required.
- Experience with accounting methods, tax provisions, corporate taxation, consolidations, and partnerships preferred.
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent required.
Software:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word preferred.
- Experience with tax-related software and research databases like Caseware and GoSystems preferred.

Salary Information:
Salaries for this position are determined based on various factors including qualifications, experience, skills, and geography. The national salary range is $99,750 - $262,500. The same range applies for Maryland, NYC/Long Island/Westchester, and Washington DC.
