Job Summary:
The Tax Experienced Manager, Core Tax Services is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and cost of compliance, and identifying methods of complying with tax regulations. This role also involves acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues and making top-level decisions regarding filing, preparation, and resolution of questions from federal and state agencies. The Tax Experienced Manager will also be a critical member of the office or region's leadership team and actively participate in marketing, networking, and business development while maintaining client relationships.
Job Duties:
- Ensure clients comply with all applicable tax authorities and minimize their tax and reporting burdens
- Conduct top-level review of tax returns and resolve any tax issues with clients
- Communicate any issues identified in tax accrual reviews to clients and Assurance
- Plan for early recognition of material tax and compliance issues and consult with clients and partners
- Manage client relationships and expectations in accordance with the project
- Provide timely advice to clients
- Plan and review the tax process and procedures, including budgeting, staffing, monitoring engagement process, and billing
- Conduct research on complex tax issues and provide analysis
- Train managers and staff on research skills and how to frame tax issues for analysis
- Involve firm specialists when necessary
- Apply and proactively follow Firm policies and standards regarding FAS 109 and FIN 48
- Review tax provisions and explain components of the income tax provision and uncertain tax positions to clients
- Assist with developing and implementing tax strategies to decrease clients' current and future taxes
- Maximize client benefits while managing risk
- Confer with STS specialists to determine applicability of consulting specialties to each client
- Monitor implementation of work plans for tax consulting projects
- Manage written or phone inquiries from federal and state agencies
- Effectively assist with protests at the appeals level
- Implement applicable Firm strategies and manage client expectations
- Develop an in-depth understanding of one or more areas of taxation, such as individual, corporate, property, sales, state and local, international, compensation and benefits, etc.
- Organize and conduct effective external CPE training sessions in area of specialization
- Train and mentor managers and staff on specialization areas
- Introduce and develop new or improved ideas to improve the position of clients or the Firm
- Research and implement tax strategies, including experimenting with new strategies and ideas
- Consistently make suggestions for improvement on previous work products or approaches
- May present complex strategies to clients and prospective clients
- Other duties as required
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise and review work prepared by associates and senior associates
- Train associates and seniors on software tools
- Act as a Career Advisor to associates and senior associates
- Provide performance feedback to associates and senior associates
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics, preferred
- Master's in Accountancy or Taxation, preferred
Experience:
- Six or more years of relevant tax experience in public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services, required
- Prior supervisory experience, required
- Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties, preferred
License/Certifications:
- CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a . jurisdiction), or Internal Revenue Service Enrolled Agent (or equivalent), required
- Possession of other professional degrees or certifications, preferred
Software:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, preferred
- Experience with tax research databases and compliance process software, preferred
