Job Responsibilities:
The Paralegal 1-3 position within the Litigation Division of the Department of Justice, Office of the Attorney General, involves providing comprehensive paralegal support to one or more attorneys. The responsibilities include:
- Performing recurring duties independently
- Reviewing and preparing summaries of records
- Managing calendars for multiple individuals
- Drafting pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, and other documentation associated with case defense
- Organizing and maintaining both paper and electronic records on cases, and assisting in the maintenance of file-related materials
- Maintaining administrative records necessary to account for time, travel, and expenses
- Preparing, proofreading, and editing correspondence, reports, and other documents
- Requesting, preparing, producing, and organizing legal documents
- Maintaining both physical and electronic records and case files while ensuring the confidentiality of information
- Scheduling meetings and other appearances for attorneys and preparing appropriate materials needed
- Receiving research assignments from attorneys, conducting thorough and complete legal research within time constraints, and reporting appropriately the results of legal research
- Communicating with courts, clerks' offices, opposing counsel, and other persons related to case matters
- Maintaining valid administrative records of all daily and monthly activities
- Accepting additional responsibilities as assigned by supervisors
Education and Experience Information:
Minimum Qualifications:
- One year of experience in which paralegal duties were a major component

- Possession of a valid driver's license
- Proficiency in legal research and writing
- Access to a motor vehicle for statewide travel
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and meet deadlines
- Advanced knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Software, and Windows
- Knowledge of legal documents and terminology
- Experience with court and clerk of court online databases
- Professionalism, responsibility, reliability, and discretion
Salary Information:
The salary for the Paralegal 1-3 position ranges from $40, to $52, annually. The specific salary offered will be commensurate with the qualifications and experience of the selected candidate.
Additional Information:
The position is domiciled in Lafayette, Louisiana, Lafayette Parish. It is an unclassified job type under a Career Progression Group, and vacancies may be filled as a Paralegal 1-3 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
