Job Overview:
A respected Richmond-based law firm is expanding its civil litigation team and is actively seeking a motivated attorney with hands-on experience in medical malpractice and professional liability defense. This role offers direct client interaction, courtroom exposure, and the chance to contribute meaningfully to a growing team within a collaborative and supportive environment. Candidates will take on a central role in managing files, conducting depositions, and preparing for trial, with opportunities for first- and second-chair responsibilities depending on experience.
Duties:
Handle a diverse caseload of medical malpractice and professional liability matters
Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, and discovery responses
Take and defend depositions of expert and lay witnesses
Participate in case strategy, settlement negotiations, and trial preparation
Appear in court for motions, pretrial hearings, and trials
Collaborate closely with partners, associates, and clients throughout the case lifecycle
Contribute to the growth and development of the firm’s litigation group
Requirements:
Active license to practice law in Virginia
Prior experience in medical malpractice, healthcare litigation, or complex tort defense
Strong written and oral advocacy skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Commitment to delivering high-quality client service
Education:
Juris Doctor (.) from an accredited law school
Certifications:
Admission to the Virginia State Bar (required)
Admission to relevant federal courts (preferred)
Skills:
Proficiency in litigation drafting and procedural strategy
Analytical thinking and problem-solving approach to case evaluation
Confident courtroom demeanor and strong interpersonal skills
Team-oriented mindset with a proactive work ethic
Familiarity with case management software and legal research tools
