Job Title: Law Clerk

Job Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough reviews, analysis, and research of laws, court decisions, opinions, briefs, and related legal authorities.
- Prepares orders and legal memoranda for judicial use.
- Engages in discussions with judicial officers regarding legal questions, document constructions, and granting of orders.
- Attends court sessions to hear oral arguments and records necessary case information; maintains records related to court proceedings.
- Prepares jury instructions and verdict forms.
- Responds to telephone calls and written inquiries from the public and attorneys.
- May perform courtroom duties including calling the calendar, swearing in jury panels and witnesses, taking court minutes, and assisting in various court proceedings such as arraignments, motions, hearings, pre-trial conferences, and trials.

Education and Experience Information:
- For consideration as a Law Clerk: Must have graduated from an accredited law school at the time of employment.
- For consideration as a Law Clerk 1 (student): Must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and current enrollment in and completion of at least one year of law school training at an accredited law school.
- Preferred: Concise and efficient writing skills, including experience in law review, law journal, or legal clinic.
- Preferred: An attorney who has passed the Minnesota Bar Exam.

Skills and Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Knowledge of court practices and procedures.
- Familiarity with court terminology and concepts.
- Ability to research complex legal problems or questions and apply legal principles.

Salary Information:
- Law Clerk starting salary is .
- Applicants hired prior to graduation from law school will be hired into the Law Clerk I job classification at until graduation.
- Salary Range: Minimum ($65,229/Yr), Mid ($72,934/Yr), Maximum ($80,618/Yr).

Additional Information:
- The Sixth Judicial District serves Minnesota's Arrowhead Region, including the counties of Carlton, Cook, Lake, and St. Louis.
- This is a full-time, unrepresented position primarily performed at the Lake County Courthouse, with travel throughout the district expected.
- The position may involve a hybrid role of remote and in-person work, requiring reliable internet access when remote.
