Job Title: Privacy Counsel

Job Responsibilities:
The Privacy Counsel at the company will be responsible for overseeing and managing the legal aspects of the company’s data privacy program. This role includes maintaining privacy policies and statements for both internal and external use. The Privacy Counsel will facilitate legal and regulatory compliance by coordinating with senior leadership, including the General Counsel, Chief Operations Officer, Global Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Head of Cybersecurity, and other internal stakeholders such as Risk, Compliance, Investment Operations, Human Resources, and Technology. The Privacy Counsel will work closely with other business stakeholders to manage risks associated with potential business, process, or technology changes affecting data privacy. Additionally, this role involves partnering with marketing and other public- or client-facing teams to develop effective data management strategies for public outreach and related campaigns.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Supporting the company’s business on all privacy matters to ensure compliance with global data protection laws and regulations such as GDPR, PECR, and Regulation S-P.
- Tracking and advising on legal, regulatory, and policy developments related to data collection and use, online privacy, tracking and analytics, and public engagement.
- Drafting, updating, and maintaining privacy policies and statements, including obtaining necessary internal approvals.
- Advising on responses to potential privacy and data incidents.
- Advising on responses to data subject access requests and similar events.
- Overseeing and working with outside counsel on legal aspects of privacy matters.
- Drafting and updating data protection agreements, addenda, and amendments for third-party and affiliate relationships.
- Advising business teams on privacy-related product improvements.
- Researching legal issues and preparing memoranda to advise the business on privacy-related risks.
- Assisting in the development of in-house legal templates.
- Contributing to the development of internal procedures and methodologies.
- Advising on novel requirements for engaging with the general public globally, including generating media from events and conferences.

Education and Experience Information:
- 6-8+ years of practicing law, including at least 3 years in direct privacy-related work, preferably with a top-tier law firm or in the legal department of a broker-dealer and/or investment adviser.
- Expertise in the privacy laws of at least one jurisdiction where the company has offices; expertise in the privacy laws of multiple jurisdictions preferred.
- Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing, and updating written privacy and data protection policies and procedures, with experience in global requirements strongly preferred.
- IAPP certification is preferred.
- Experience with the privacy aspects of artificial intelligence.
- Experience with general data protection and cybersecurity is preferred, including support for governance programs, data transfer assessments, and audit support.
- Experience in the financial services industry is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate with non-lawyer business partners in a clear and understandable way.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Self-starter capable of managing multiple time-sensitive projects involving different business and support groups on a cross-functional basis.
- Membership in a . state bar is required.
- JD from a top law school.
