Job Title: Senior Paralegal
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide legal assistance and technical work requiring specialized knowledge of legal processes, procedures, and practices to support legal activities.
- Manage litigative cases by annotating deficiencies, such as missing documents or conflicting statements, and request further investigation to correct these deficiencies.
- Serve as the contact person for assigned cases, offering information and assistance on status or procedural issues.
- Compile, organize, and index discovery and evidence exhibits for trial, coordinating witness testimony related to specific criminal charge evidence.
- Work closely with assigned attorneys to ensure material is efficiently arranged.
- Provide technical assistance to attorneys with e-discovery platforms and document review systems.
- Produce and provide appropriate legal documents, information, exhibits, or witnesses during court proceedings.
- Prepare and coordinate trial exhibits, including charts, diagrams, photographs, and models.
- Personally prepare trial exhibits or initiate preparation by other staff or contractors to ensure timely production before trial dates.
- Maintain accounting systems for materials used as exhibits in grand jury proceedings and trials.
- Provide automated litigation support to attorneys in trial preparation and courtroom presentations, utilizing software applications.
- Perform administrative duties in support of assigned AUSAs, involving automation support or other administrative areas.
- Use established databases for data searches, report design, and data retrieval assignments.
- Open, maintain, and close case files, notify proper client agencies of service, and obtain litigation reports or other needed case information.
- Establish and update databases to track receipt of cases, upcoming deadlines, and other case information.
- Monitor the progress of pending cases and initiate action to ensure deadlines are met.
- Maintain case files and related material in an accessible filing system.
- Close case files in a timely manner, purge unnecessary documents, and forward files to archives.
- Prepare various legal documents, correspondence, and related material from templates, including subpoenas, liens, and status updates.
- Maintain AUSAs and court calendars, schedule court reporters, witnesses, and conferences as required.
- Address outside inquiries not requiring legal interpretations and refer other questions to appropriate office members, exercising judgment and discretion.
Education and Experience Information:
- Requires a paralegal certificate, JD, or current attendance at an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed, or an equivalent level of legal training or experience.
- At least two years of litigation paralegal experience or project experience related to the task order is required.
- At least one year of experience in automated litigation support.
- Sound working knowledge of federal and state court systems, legal research procedures, and legal research resources is required.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and thorough knowledge of legal research tools such as LEXIS and Westlaw are necessary.
- Must have hands-on familiarity with computer applications, including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, imaging, and hardware systems.
- Requires familiarity with ESI tools and knowledge of eDiscovery procedures and resources.
- Ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure is important.
- DOJ MBI clearance must be obtainable (US Citizenship required).
Salary Information:
This position is covered by the Service Contract Labor Standards (SCA). The pay and benefits provided will meet or exceed the minimum required amounts detailed in the Department of Labor's wage determination applicable to this position.
