Job Title: School Year Student Volunteer - Unclassified Duties (General Legal)

Job Responsibilities:

The internship at the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) offers law students an opportunity to gain valuable experience in various divisions and offices. Interns are expected to assist CFTC staff members in a range of tasks, including but not limited to:

- Researching and analyzing market issues and legal matters.
- Drafting memos, public statements, legal memoranda, pleadings, and papers.
- Attending meetings with market participants and drafting related summaries and analysis.
- Reviewing and analyzing evidence in ongoing investigations, as well as SEF Annual Compliance Reports and DCM and SEF rules.
- Assisting in preparing investigative testimony, depositions, and discovery.
- Collaborating with staff in preparing briefing memoranda and presentation materials for international meetings.
- Conducting background and factual research on swap dealers and futures market intermediaries.
- Assisting with technical analyses of intricate regulations and industry governing activities.
- Preparing legal reports and analytical fact summaries.

Education and Experience Information:

- Current students enrolled in an accredited high school, college, or graduate institution are eligible to apply.
- Specifically, law students currently enrolled and in good standing as a . or candidate in an ABA-accredited law school are considered for the role.
- Applicants must have completed at least one year of law school by the start date of the internship.
- Students must be actively enrolled at least part-time in an accredited college or university and must submit a law school transcript.
- Candidates must be . Citizens or Nationals, and male applicants must register for Selective Service unless exempt.

Salary Information:

- The internship is unpaid, with a salary range of $0 - $0, and is a volunteer position.
- Volunteers will not receive agency benefits.

Additional Requirements and Information:

- The internship can last from 12 weeks to 12 months and may occur during the school year, summer, or vacation periods.
- Interns may be assigned to divisions such as the Chairman/Commissioner's Office, Division of Enforcement, Division of Market Oversight, Market Participants Division, or Office of International Affairs.
- Applicants must be suitable for Federal employment, determined by a background investigation.

- Applications are accepted year-round based on agency needs, and no relocation expenses are reimbursed.
- The position is not eligible for telework except for episodic telework as per the agency's policy.

- Interns must maintain student status throughout the internship and may be required to report to a CFTC location for onboarding and returning equipment.
