Job Title: Spring Internship
Job Responsibilities:
The Spring Internship offers a unique educational opportunity for students to participate in the legislative branch of government. Interns will gain an understanding of the core functions of a congressional office. Key responsibilities include:
- Responding to constituent inquiries.
- Researching legislation and developing public policy.
- Observing the legislative process firsthand by attending committee meetings, hearings, and a variety of lecture series.
Education and Experience Information:
Applicants must meet the following educational and experience criteria:
- Must be enrolled in college with a minimum Grade Point Average.
- Must possess excellent writing and computer skills.
- Preference is given to residents of California’s 40th Congressional District, though all applications will be considered.
- All interns are responsible for their own expenses, including transportation and lodging costs.
Internship Details:
- Internship opportunities are available in both the Washington . office and the District Office in California’s 40th Congressional District.
- Internships typically last for the spring term, summer term, or fall term.
- Applications for Summer 2025 internships in District offices are due by April 11, 2025.
- Interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend.
Application Process:
Applicants are required to complete and submit a form to apply for an internship in one of the offices. The application process includes:
- Submitting a cover letter and resume.
- Providing personal information such as name, email, date of birth, and emergency contact.
- Indicating internship availability, including start and end dates, and whether the internship will be full-time or part-time.
- Specifying academic information, including schools attended, year in school, graduation date, GPA, and major.
- Listing specific issues or areas of interest related to the internship.
- Indicating if the applicant has served a prior internship in Washington . or a district office, and if so, with whom.
- Providing desired location(s) for the internship and desired session(s) (spring, summer, fall).
- Listing career objectives and three references.
- Providing a bio statement.
- Uploading a cover letter and resume.
- Signing the application using a mouse or finger.
Salary Information:
Interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend to support their participation in the internship program. However, all other expenses, including transportation and lodging costs, are the responsibility of the intern.
