Job Title: Associate Project Manager II

Job Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the Department of Transportation's Quality Assurance department, the Associate Project Manager II serves as a Project Engineer within the Field Operations Unit. Responsibilities include visiting multiple construction sites and overseeing construction activities related to major bridge components such as erection, concrete and asphalt placements, embankment, subgrade and base installation, pile driving, drilled shaft installation, and reinforcing bars formwork installation. The role involves generating field reports on findings and deficiencies observed during inspections to ensure work compliance with project plans and specifications. The candidate must be able to review design drawings and demonstrate knowledge of the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) Standard Specifications. Verification of project and material acceptance records for compliance with NYSDOT Material Uniform Record Keeping (MURK) requirements is also required. The role demands knowledge of concrete and asphalt material properties, principles of mix design, methods of placement, concrete curing, and field material inspection and testing. Additionally, the Associate Project Manager II reviews Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) around the job site and adjacent streets for safety protection for the public and motorists. Participation in contractor’s progress meetings, quality assurance meetings, and performing other related duties is also expected.

Education and Experience Information:
To qualify for this position, candidates must have one year of full-time satisfactory experience in supervising employees performing project management work such as planning, administering, managing, coordinating, or expediting on engineering and/or architectural and/or landscape architectural projects, or supervising a construction project with a value of $1,000,000 or more. Additionally, candidates must meet one of the following educational and experience criteria:

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in relevant fields such as engineering, engineering technology, architecture, landscape architecture, architectural technology, construction, construction management, construction technology, sustainable design, urban planning, urban studies, city planning, transportation planning, business administration, or public administration, along with one year of full-time satisfactory experience in project management work.
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and five years of experience as described above.
3. A combination of college or university education and/or experience equivalent to five years, with credit given for relevant educational achievements such as a baccalaureate or master’s degree in appropriate disciplines, a Juris Doctor degree, or a valid New York State license as a Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, or Registered Landscape Architect.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates must have at least one additional year of experience in a supervisory capacity or have served for at least one year as a project manager for a large and/or complex construction project. A further two years of supervisory experience or project management on large and/or complex projects is preferred.

Preferred Skills:
The position requires field construction experience and the ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

Salary Information:
The salary range for the Associate Project Manager II position is $84, to $123,.
