Assistant Attorney General II
Job Responsibilities
- Represent state law enforcement agencies, officials, and employees in lawsuits involving civil rights, employment law, torts, constitutional law, religious liberties, and class actions in both state and federal courts.
- Handle all aspects of litigation, including legal research, memoranda, witness preparation, client communications, case briefings, written discovery, depositions, pre-trial motions, dispositive motions, hearings, mediations, and trials throughout Texas as lead counsel and/or co-counsel.
- Provide excellent client service and collaborate effectively with other attorneys and staff within a dynamic office environment.
- Prepare and try cases in state and federal courts in defense of state agencies and state employees.
- Offer legal advice, counsel, and assistance to client state agencies and law enforcement entities.
- Perform related tasks as assigned.
- Maintain necessary knowledge to perform essential job functions.
- Attend work regularly in compliance with the agreed-upon work schedule.
- Ensure the security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information.
- Comply with all agency policies and procedures, including ethics and integrity guidelines.
- Manage a docket of moderately complex cases.
Education and Experience Information
- Education: Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctor (.) degree.
- Experience: Minimum of one year of full-time experience working in civil litigation or closely related fields as a licensed attorney.
- Licensed as an attorney by the State of Texas and must be in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
- Must be eligible to practice law in Texas by the start date.
- Preferred Experience:
- Two years of experience working in civil litigation as a licensed attorney.
- State and federal court trial experience.
- Preferred Knowledge:
- Laws and procedures of the Law Enforcement Defense Division.
Salary Information
- Salary range: $7, to $8, monthly.

- Must have knowledge of relevant law and legal principles and practices.
- Must possess excellent organizational and administrative skills, including attention to detail and an organized work style.
- Must be skilled in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines.
- Must have effective oral and written communication skills; a writing sample may be required for selected interviewees.
- Must be proficient in conducting legal research.
- Must exercise sound judgment and effective decision-making.
- Must be able to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback.
- Must work cooperatively in a professional office environment.
- Must provide excellent customer service.
- Must be able to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Must work in person at the assigned work location, perform all tasks at the designated workspace, and collaborate with coworkers in person for the entirety of every work week unless on approved leave.
- Must be able to lift and relocate 30 lbs.
- Must arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel.
- Must be able to travel, including overnight travel, up to 25%.
