About NJOPD
- Provides first-class legal representation to indigent individuals at trial and appellate levels
- Handles criminal defense, parental representation, law guardian, mental health advocacy, Megan's Law tier classification, post-conviction relief, Recovery Court, Intensive Supervision Program, and forensic science matters
Internships for Law Students
- Available for 2Ls and 3Ls
- Assist with case preparation, litigation, and ongoing/systemic projects for NJOPD clients
- Responsibilities include legal research and analysis, drafting legal documents, trial preparation, client and witness interviews, and attending court proceedings
- Students with 2 years of law school completed may appear in court under attorney supervision

- Cover letter should include reasons for seeking internship/externship, practice areas of interest, geographic preferences/limitations, and availability
- Applications accepted on a rolling basis between June 15th and July 31st (Fall), October 15th and November 30th (Spring), and December 15th and April 15th (Summer)
- Applicants must complete an interview, confidentiality and ethics paperwork, and be approved before being offered an internship/externship with NJOPD
